Rahat Yasir Diversity for Inclusion Award

Department of Computer Science, College of Arts and Science — University of Saskatchewan

Founded in 2022, the $1,500 annual award gives financial support to a continuing undergraduate student in USask's Department of Computer Science who identifies with, or is an ally to, the LGBTQ2S+ community — the first award of its kind in the department.

The award was created after noticing that, while scholarships existed for women in STEM, there was no specific award for the LGBTQ2S+ community. It is presented annually during spring graduation, starting in 2023.

The endowment was sponsored for an initial four years of education support and has since been renewed through 2027.

This award is a thank you to them. I believe with this award they will be more motivated, more encouraged, to continue their great work.

Miles Kitchen — Home Cooked Meals to Homeless People

A small project started with Claudia Laliberté

Claudia Laliberté and I recently began a small project we call Miles Kitchen: cooking home made meals and handing them out, in person, to people living on the streets of Montreal.

It is deliberately small and personal — real food, cooked at home, given with a conversation rather than through a queue. The plan is to keep it going regularly and grow it gently as more people join in.
